My name is Steve Thorne I’m a PGA golf professional based in Dorset.

I’ve been playing golf seriously for 12 years now and have quickly gone from the amateur scene to the professional ranks.

I’ve played sport all my life, playing football at a semi professional level and cricket at a high level too, until unfortunately injury forced me to retire.

Before playing golf I worked in the leisure industry for 15 years learning to understand what people want from their leisure time, what makes people get away from the stresses of their general jobs and lifestyle and what allows them to get the best out of their free time. This was enhanced by being in a position of running health clubs and working in the 2nd busiest leisure centre in the country.

Before embarking on a golfing career I was a football development manager overseeing the busiest junior football section in Europe with over 1500 children playing the game, I was able to develop people to become coaches, offer the opportunity for talented children to have trials and try to fulfil the ultimate dream and coaching and playing opportunities to children from the age of 5 to 16.

Golf is now my career and have been lucky enough to be able to put what I know about sport in general into the golfing world.

Being a professional sportsman is every kid’s dream and I’ve been lucky to fulfil mine, and now I want to put something back into the game and help everyone who loves the game to improve in their golf and more importantly improve their lifestyle.

I’ve been lucky to coach around the world and teach people who have never played the game to those who play professionally and the feedback is always positive. All I want is for people to love the game of golf and hitting straighter, being more consistent, and playing the game with a smile will enable you to do this.

At the present moment in time I am head teaching professional at a club in the South of England and my philosophy in coaching is to keep teaching simple. This way the pupil understands golf better which, in turn, enables the development of their game to be quicker.
